Assistant Store Manager – Mr Price Cellular

Job Overview
Mr Price Cellular is looking for a motivated, performance-driven, and customer-focused Assistant Store to join our energetic team in Giyani, Limpopo. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Store Manager with the daily operational management of the store, ensuring that performance targets, sales goals, and customer service standards are consistently achieved and exceeded.
As an Assistant Store Manager, you will help lead a passionate retail team, contribute to the strategic execution of sales initiatives, and drive operational excellence in line with the Mr Price Group’s values of innovation, accountability, and customer obsession.
Key Responsibilities
1. Stock and Inventory Management
-
Ensure all incoming stock is accurately received, unpacked, and displayed on the sales floor according to merchandising standards.

Monitor and control stock levels by implementing structured processes such as daily stock counts, cycle counts, and periodic stock takes.

Assist in identifying and mitigating potential risks related to stock loss through proactive action plans and adherence to inventory management policies.

Maintain an organised and clean stockroom, ensuring it meets the company’s housekeeping and safety standards at all times.

Authorise and process stock-related transactions including write-offs, breakages, product recalls, OBF (Out-of-Box Failures), cellular repairs, and customer returns.

Support the Store Manager in implementing loss prevention strategies to minimise shrinkage and ensure optimal stock availability.
2. Sales Growth and Store Profitability

Analyse daily, weekly, and monthly sales and profitability reports to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities.

Collaborate with the Store Manager to develop and execute effective operational action plans aimed at improving sales performance and meeting set targets.

Monitor in-store product performance and communicate customer preferences, product feedback, and sales insights to the support centre.

Actively identify and implement new opportunities to drive sales, including in-store promotions, visual merchandising improvements, and competitor analysis.

Take ownership of growing key business areas such as Credit, Insurance, Mobile and Cellular services, ensuring performance meets or exceeds budget expectations.

Oversee store expenditure to ensure all costs are controlled within budgetary guidelines while maintaining profitability and operational efficiency.
3. Risk and Compliance Management
-
Support the Store Manager in conducting routine compliance checks to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Perform regular store audits, including administrative reviews, point-of-sale (POS) system checks, and security audits.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company audit standards such as COMO, weekly hanger counts, and visual merchandising audits.

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and that all staff operate within a safe and secure working environment.

Assist in implementing corrective actions for any non-compliance issues identified during inspections or audits.
4. Customer Experience Excellence

Champion a customer-first culture by ensuring that every shopper receives an exceptional service experience.

Oversee the consistent implementation of Mr Price’s Customer Experience Framework, including in-store promotions, markdowns, repricing, and customer feedback systems.

Monitor the store’s visual presentation, housekeeping, and merchandising standards to ensure a professional and engaging shopping environment.

Address and resolve customer queries, complaints, and product issues promptly and professionally.

Ensure all team members are trained, motivated, and equipped to deliver excellent service and maintain the brand’s reputation for quality and affordability.
5. Leadership, Team Development, and Performance Management

Lead, inspire, and support the store team to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational targets.

Actively participate in training, coaching, and mentoring team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Identify top talent and plan for succession within the store to ensure sustainability and career growth opportunities for employees.

Manage recruitment, induction, and onboarding processes for new staff in alignment with company policies.

Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear goals, and provide constructive feedback to promote accountability and engagement.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Education: Grade 10-12 or equivalent qualification.

Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of Sales and Service Management.

Proven ability to interpret and analyse sales reports.

Sound knowledge of budgeting and cost control principles.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy.
